This week’s blog involves tips for raising healthy children. Pediatrician, Lawrence Rosen, MD., in his book “Treatment Alternatives for Children,” suggests replacing conventional remedies with natural equivalents to combat some common childhood ailments. Here are some super food ingredients in your cupboard:

Apple Cider Vinegar for heartburn and constipation
Baking Soda for upset stomach
Cilantro for Urinary Tract infections and bad cholesterol
Coconut Oil for the immune system
Ginger for colds and allergies
Honey for a good night’s sleep
Mustard Seed for arthritis
Olive Oil for constipation
Sea Salt for high blood pressure
White Vinegar for healthy bones

His book would be a great addition to your library. Here’s a link to his website. We hope to see you and your kids here soon at the Chiropractic Wellness Center for regular chiropractic check-ups!

Spring Cleaning ~ Not Just For Your House!

Spring Cleaning is not just for your house but for your body as well. Here are our three tips on how to do this. One is by eating healthy, especially increasing the raw content of your foods through fresh vegetables and salads which serve as the brooms for your body by keeping your elimination organs functioning properly. Also, drinking water every day, and lastly having regular chiropractic adjustments which will help your elimination organs get rid of all those toxins so you can function better. So, if you’re feeling sluggish and weighed down, we hope you’ll take these tips to heart, and we’d love to see you for regular chiropractic adjustments this Spring!

Wobble Chair for Lower Back Pain

Did you know that the discs in your back have a cushion of fluid in them which needs to be kept soft for better movement and health? Unfortunately, current lifestyles require that we sit for long periods of time which make our discs very stiff and hard. This is not a healthy situation for our spines and leads to many of our low back woes. So, we are attempting to remedy this in the following ways — after warming up the spine with our inversion table, we move over to the wobble chair with a few exercises which helps to hydrate the discs. After a few exercises on the Wobble Chair you will be feeling more nimble and sturdy on your feet!

Walking Taller with Chiropractic Inversion

Did you know that you lose about 3/4 of an inch of height in one day? This is due to gravity pushing you down and compressing the discs in your spine. Healthy discs are a very important part of maintaining a healthy spine. Discs become unhealthy when they start to lose fluid, and the way to keep them hydrated is to keep the spine moving with specific exercises. One exercise is the inversion table, which enables the discs to regain their full height.

Hips Don’t Lie

Americans are increasingly in need of new hips via hip replacement. This year, almost half a million people will get it done. The age of people needing new hips are getting younger and younger too. Let’s look at the problems and see if we can keep our hips from going bad.

The first problem that causes stress to the hip joint is poor alignment. Poor alignment of the low back, pelvis, and hips can cause uneven weight distribution to be carried on each side. We have seen patients who, because of poor alignment, are carrying 30 or 40 pounds more on one leg than the other. This will cause the hip to wear out dramatically, just the way your car would wear out the tires if not properly aligned. Chiropractic adjustments of the lower back, pelvis and hips, if done early enough, can improve alignment and keep those hips in good shape.

Another key to having healthy hips is flexibility. My three favorite hip stretches are shown below:

Keeping your body properly aligned and stretching your hips can go a long way towards keeping this part of the body healthy for your whole life. For more information or to ask us any questions visit chiropractorwyckoffnj.com

Avoiding Medical Potholes

In talking about medical potholes, we are warning people about certain things that will short circuit their health. You could be going along just fine, and then after taking some drug that could have side effects, you could actually become worse, or even get hooked on an unnecessary medical regimen. The overuse of antibiotics is being warned against today in the medical profession, and it’s especially important for our children’s health to avoid the over use of antibiotics and even certain over-the-counter drugs. The body has its own built-in ability of always trying to repair itself if given the opportunity through good nutrition, proper nerve flow, rest and proper exercise, as well as proper attitude.
